The Facilities Committee is a joint committee with MIPOA and oversees MIPOA-owned assets including roads, stormwater systems, rights-of-way, and land parcels.
Construction: New Homes, Remodels or Landscaping changes
All plans for new home or remodel construction projects and major landscape changes must be reviewed and approved by the Facilities Committee prior to beginning a project. It is recommended that the property owner first get the necessary approvals from the Facilities Committee before submitting plans to the Town of Stonington otherwise the property owner may have to resubmit plans to the Town and pay additional fees. It is expected that the property owner will submit proper Building and Site plans created by a properly licensed engineer to the Committee for review. Once the Facilities Committee provides approvals, the property owner would then submit the approved plans to the Town of Stonington for zoning approvals and apply with the Town for official building permits to proceed.
Driveway Aprons
The District maintains specific standards when it comes to the construction or replacement of a driveway apron that will abut a MIPOA-owned road. Please review the Driveway Apron standards with your architect or engineer and contact the Facilities Committee to understand requirements for your project.
Roadwork
Sometimes it is necessary for a construction project to disturb a MIPOA-owned road, for instance when installing or replacing a water line. A Performance Bond will be required to be deposited with the Fire District, which will be returned to the property owned at the completion of the project, less the cost of any repairs required by the District to return the road to its original condition.
Road Maintenance
Each year, the Facilities Committee performs a review of all MIPOA-owned roads and the related road infrastructure and proposes a road plan for the coming fiscal year which may include repaving certain roads in disrepair, the addition of new stormwater drains, etc. In addition, the committee is responsible for the maintenance and replacement of other road-related infrastructure such as road signs and painted lines. The proposed projects must then be voted on and approved by voters at the Annual Meeting for the coming Fiscal year.
